How To Create a Complete Home Wellness Space

Luxury home wellness space with hot tub and sauna in a landscaped UK garden at dusk

A home wellness space is one of the most considered investments you can make in how you live.

Not an impulse buy. Not a single product decision. A space that is designed around your routine, your body, and how you want to feel — morning and evening, every day of the year.

At Medi-Spa, we help homeowners plan and install everything from a single hot tub to complete multi-product wellness environments. This guide walks you through how to think about it — what the options are, how they work together, and what the planning and installation process actually looks like.

If you'd like to talk through your specific space, WhatsApp our team or book a consultation. We'll come to you, look at the space, and give you a clear picture of what's achievable.

Start With How You Want to Feel

The best wellness spaces are not built around products. They are built around a purpose.

Before looking at what products to include, ask yourself the more important questions:

  • Do I primarily want to relax and decompress after a long day?
  • Do I train seriously and need a proper recovery setup?
  • Do I want a space the whole family uses together?
  • Do I want a daily ritual — something I do every morning or evening without fail?
  • Do I want contrast therapy — the combination of heat and cold?
  • Do I want the full experience: heat, cold, relaxation, movement?

Your answers determine which products belong in your space — and which ones you can leave out.

The Core Wellness Experiences

Home wellness spaces are typically built around some combination of these four experiences:

Heat Therapy

A hot tub, sauna, or swim spa. The most versatile starting point. Relaxation, hydrotherapy, muscle recovery, social use. A hot tub is the most accessible entry point; a sauna offers a more focused, intentional heat experience; a swim spa combines hydrotherapy with the ability to swim and exercise.

Cold Therapy

An ice bath or cold plunge. Used alone as a daily resilience and recovery practice, or in combination with heat as contrast therapy. Cold immersion paired with heat is one of the most effective physiological protocols you can build into a home routine.

Light Therapy

Red and near-infrared light panels. Targeted wavelength therapy used for muscle recovery, skin health, and general wellbeing. Compact, wall-mounted, and easily incorporated into a sauna room, gym space, or dedicated wellness room.

Recovery Technology

Compression boots, percussion therapy, and related devices. Portable, practical additions to any wellness space — particularly useful in a dedicated recovery room alongside the larger installations.

Four Wellness Space Templates

Here are four ways our customers typically approach a combined wellness space. These are starting points, not prescriptions — every space we design is different.

The Relaxation Space

Built around unwinding. A hot tub or swim spa, good lighting, comfortable surroundings. Perfect for daily decompression, evening use, and social occasions. The most popular starting point for first-time wellness space buyers.

Products: Hot Tub or Swim Spa

The Recovery Space

Built around athletic performance and recovery. A sauna and an ice bath — the contrast therapy pairing — with optional red light therapy and compression equipment. One of the most effective home recovery setups available to non-professional athletes.

Products: Sauna + Ice Bath + Red Light

The Complete Wellness Space

The full environment. Heat, cold, movement, relaxation — all combined. A hot tub or swim spa, a sauna, an ice bath, and supporting recovery technology. For those who want a home wellness facility rather than a single product. Typically the result of a phased build — one product added at a time as the space evolves.

Products: Hot Tub or Swim Spa + Sauna + Ice Bath

The Training and Recovery Space

Built around performance. A swim spa for resistance training and active exercise, combined with a sauna and ice bath for recovery. An increasingly popular choice for serious athletes and fitness-focused households who want gym-quality recovery at home.

Products: Swim Spa + Sauna + Ice Bath

Planning Your Space

The most common concern at the planning stage is whether there is enough room. Most gardens can accommodate more than people expect — particularly when working with a specialist who understands how products can be arranged to share space efficiently, how access routes work, and what base and drainage requirements apply.

Things to consider

  • Footprint — each product has a base dimension and a comfort zone around it. We'll map this out for your specific garden.
  • Base and ground preparation — hot tubs and swim spas require a solid, level surface capable of supporting significant weight when filled. Saunas and ice baths have their own base requirements. We advise on all of this.
  • Access for delivery — products need to reach the installation point. We assess this during the survey and confirm deliverability before anything is ordered.
  • Electrical supply — multiple products may require dedicated circuits. A qualified electrician will need to be involved; we co-ordinate this so you don't have to manage it separately.
  • Drainage — hot tubs, swim spas and ice baths need to be emptied periodically. Drainage routes need to be planned in advance.
  • Privacy and screening — many customers add fencing, planting or pergola structures to create a more enclosed, private feel. This is typically done before or alongside the wellness installation.

Phasing Your Build

You don't have to install everything at once. Most complete wellness spaces are built in phases — a hot tub first, then a sauna added six months later, then an ice bath the following year as the practice deepens.

The advantage of planning the full space from the start — even if you're only installing one product initially — is that you can ensure the base, electrical supply and layout accommodate what you'll add later. Starting without a plan and retrofitting is more expensive and more disruptive.

We'll help you design the whole space at the first consultation, even if the initial order is a single product. That way, everything that follows fits perfectly.

What Installation Looks Like

For every Medi-Spa wellness space installation, our own in-house team handles everything — no subcontractors, no handovers between different companies.

  1. Site survey — we visit, assess the space, and confirm exactly what is achievable. We flag any issues and advise on what needs to be in place before installation begins.
  2. Base preparation — we guide you through or arrange the required base work for each product.
  3. Phased delivery and installation — products are delivered and installed in sequence, with each one fully commissioned before the next begins.
  4. Electrical and drainage coordination — we work with your electrician and manage any drainage requirements.
  5. Full handover and walkthrough — before we leave, we walk you through every product: controls, maintenance, water chemistry, and how to get the best from the space from day one.

Aftercare and Long-Term Support

A complete wellness space is a significant investment — and it should perform perfectly for decades. Our aftercare includes:

  • WhatsApp-first support with same-day response
  • Annual servicing for all applicable products
  • Care membership plans — fixed-schedule servicing, priority call-outs, engineer visits
  • Relocation support if you ever move
  • Long-term parts and engineering support across all products

We're a family business. The team that installs your space is the team that services it for years to come. That continuity is something we consider a core part of what we offer — not an add-on.

Ready to Start Planning?

The best wellness spaces start with a conversation. Tell us what you want to feel, show us your space, and we'll design something around how you actually live.

There's no obligation and no pressure. Just an honest conversation about what's possible.
